    Relief Work in Progress

    In its extended relief work, Bay Area Prabasi relief team (with Indian Red Cross Society) and (Jalpaiguri Path Society) NGO registered by Govt. of West Bengal, S/IL 50385) and responded to the plight of local people of Aila-struck areas in and around Sunderbaan Delta, West Bengal. Based on the information provided by Red Cross volunteers a plan was chalked out to give every possible relief to the Aila affected people in many places.

    On May 31, 2009, the first relief team reached in Colonipara and Swosanpara villages (at Gosaba, Sundarbaan area) with dry food, 2500 liters of packaged water, medicine for diseases like diarrhea, vomiting, headache, fever/skin disease, candle and matches. The relief items were distributed among 250 families.

    In the second phase of relief work on June 13, 2009, the relief team reached Pakhiralay South and Rangabelia villages (which lies at Gosaba, Sundarbaan area) with dry food, 2500 liters of packaged water, medicine for fever/skin disease, some cloths and mosquito nets. The relief items were distributed among 200 families.

    In the third phase of the relief work on June 29, 2009, the relief team reached Pakhiralay West and Rangabelia villages (at Gosaba, Sundarbaan area) with dry food, 1000 liters of packaged water, medicine for fever/skin disease, mosquito nets, sari, cloths and lamps. The relief items were distributed among 200 families.

    The relief team is now working closely with Indian Red Cross Society and preparing for the next phase of relief work on July 26, 2009. This time a few more very remote villages in Sundarbaan area will be covered. Relief workers are also working with the local District Magistrate’s office of South 24 Parghanas, West Bengal to help them for rural development assignments in Aila affected villages.
