Mamata Shankar
For the past few decades she heralds the spot as the true influencer in the field of classical creative dance form. Both at home and abroad Mamata Shankar Dance Company continues to present stellar creative performances in Kolkata, West Bengal, India, Japan, Europe & USA. One step into her “Udayan Kalakendra”, and one can be transported to a world of eager active learners, where she graces the dance tutorials to add her fine touches, regularly. Amidst her busy schedule she continues to keep a significant presence in the Bengali silver screen from 1976 till today. She has acted in films by directors including Satyajit Ray, Mrinal Sen, Rituparno Ghosh, Buddhadeb Dasgupta and Gautam Ghosh. Born in the Shankar family of Uday Shakar, Amala Shankar, niece to Ravi Shankar, she received her training in dance and choreography at the ‘Uday Shankar India Culture Center’, Kolkata, under Amala Shankar and is carrying on the legacy admirably.
